Dayton Power & Light Earns EEI Emergency Assistance Award for Efforts to Restore Service
June 6, 2018
DAYTON, Ohio - June 6, 2018 - The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), was presented yesterday with the Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) "Emergency Assistance Award" for its outstanding power restoration efforts after several nor'easters hit New Jersey in March 2018.
"Mutual assistance is a hallmark of the electric power industry. When a disaster impacts a region, neighboring electric companies quickly respond to assist"
The award is given to select EEI member companies to recognize their outstanding response assisting other electric companies in power restoration efforts after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events. The winners are chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. DP&L received the award during EEI's Annual Convention in San Diego.
"On behalf of DP&L, we are honored to be selected for the EEI Emergency Assistance Award. We are proud of the dedication and effort from our crews who worked long hours in difficult conditions following multiple storms restoring service to our neighbors in need," said Craig Jackson, DP&L President and CEO.
Beginning March 1, consecutive severe nor'easters impacted the East Coast and produced hurricane-force winds, more than three feet of snow, white-out blizzard conditions, and coastal flooding in New Jersey. DP&L sent 12 line workers more than 570 miles over the course of 11 days to help replace poles, miles of wire, and replace transformers to restore power to customers.
"Mutual assistance is a hallmark of the electric power industry. When a disaster impacts a region, neighboring electric companies quickly respond to assist," said EEI President Tom Kuhn. "The work of DP&L's crews to restore power to customers impacted by these nor'easters is a terrific example of mutual assistance in action and our industry's commitment to serving our customers."
DP&L was also recognized by EEI earlier this year for restoration efforts following Hurricane Irma, and in 2017 for efforts and assistance restoring service to customers in both Georgia and Florida after Hurricane Matthew.
