Right Tree, Right Place program completes its third successful year

Dayton Power and Light Awards Three $25,000 Community Environmental Grants to Enhance Area Cities

March 20, 2018

Dayton, Ohio - March 20, 2018 - The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), awarded three $25,000 grants to the communities of Coldwater, Marysville and Miamisburg as part of the Right Tree Right Place program to beautify city parks and public spaces for residents.

The Tree City USA communities of Coldwater, Marysville and Miamisburg each will receive a $25,000 grant to plant utility-friendly trees and enhance the landscape for their residents to enjoy now and by future generations. Applications for the community environmental grants were submitted to DP&L's Right Tree, Right Place program, an effort to promote and educate customers to plant trees a safe distance from power lines. DP&L is committed to protecting the environment for our residents and delivering reliable service, so we have partnered with local area businesses, organizations and communities to encourage smart, safe and sustainable tree planting throughout our service territory.

"It is comforting to see that DP&L, a long time valued supplier, is also a visionary company that is willing to invest in the future for all of us with this program", said Coldwater Mayor Joe Knapschaefer. "The Coldwater Village team will be able to plant over one hundred new trees with this grant".

"On behalf of the City of Marysville, I am extremely excited to have the support and partnership of Dayton Power and Light in our endeavors to restore our urban forest in a sustainable manner. With their help, we plan to remove many hazardous trees and restore lost canopy with new, utility-friendly tree plantings along key portions of E. and W. 5th St., a major corridor bringing residents and visitors into our Historic Uptown District," shared Marysville Urban Forrester Andy Evans.

"Trees are an important part of every community and improve the quality of life, DP&L and the Tree City USA program are partners we are proud to be associated with, we appreciate the continued support for everything we do. This grant will allow Miamisburg to plant over 100 trees throughout the city during our bicentennial year and will improve the quality of life for generations to come," said Miamisburg Mayor Dick Church, Jr.

Awarding of the DP&L Right Tree Right Place Community Environmental Grants will successfully conclude the third year of the program. Upon completion of the projects in Coldwater, Marysville and Miamisburg, DP&L will have donated more than 1,100 trees to neighborhoods and residents supporting utility friendly tree plantings through the Right Tree Right Place program. Today, seven communities in the DP&L service territory have an investment in an environmentally- and utility-friendly solution to beautify their landscapes and enhance their tree canopy.

"The overwhelming response and enthusiasm from our residents and communities validates the environmentally essential DP&L Right Tree, Right Place program. We take great pride in serving our customers and this program enables DP&L to balance the importance trees have on the environment while providing safe, reliable electric service that we depend on to power our daily lives," said incoming DP&L President and CEO Craig Jackson. "Through smart planning and collaboration, Right Tree, Right Place demonstrates how we can all enjoy nature year-round in attractive, usable public spaces and co-exist with utility equipment".
