AES Ohio reminds customers of winter assistance programs

AES Ohio, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is raising awareness about winter assistance programs and other state and local energy programs for eligible customers. The National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA) has designated February 1 as National Energy Assistance Day to help get the word out to low-income families that energy assistance funds are available to help them pay their home energy bills.  

If you're having trouble paying your bill, one of these assistance programs could help you. 

• Income-qualified programs – the state of Ohio has programs available based on your household income and other eligibility requirements. For more information and to apply for the programs below, visit the Ohio Development Services Agency. 
• Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP) - payments are based on a percentage of household income and are consistent year-round. 
• Graduate PIPP Plus - If you have been on PIPP Plus and your income now exceeds the program limits or you wish to leave the program, Graduate PIPP Plus may be able to help you transition and reduce your debt. 
• Home Energy Assistance Program Winter Crisis Program (HEAP) - Helps income-eligible customers that are threatened with disconnection, have been disconnected or have less than a 25% supply of bulk fuel in their tank maintain their utility service. 
• Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) - Provides eligible customers with assistance to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their energy costs. 

Options available to all customers  

• Notify a friend or relative - you may arrange for a third party like a friend, relative, minister or organization, to be notified if your household faces loss of service. Both you and the designated third party will be sent notification. Call us at 800-433-8500. 
• Medical need - If a permanent member of your household receives care for a serious medical condition and you need help paying your energy bill, you may qualify for special assistance. Call us at 800-433-8500.  
• Gift of Power - AES Ohio has partnered with The Salvation Army to provide emergency relief funding to customers who are facing disconnection and cannot pay their electric bills. Learn more at aes-ohio.com/gift.
