AES Ohio highlights the people behind the power on National Lineworker Appreciation Day

April 15, 2025

  • Observed on April 18th, this day honors lineworkers' vital role in delivering safe and reliable electricity to communities.
  • AES Ohio has 130 lineworkers and line technicians who are responsible for constructing, operating and maintaining more than 17,000 miles of transmission, distribution and underground lines.

On National Lineworker Appreciation Day, AES Ohio will honor and celebrate lineworkers and the important work they do to power lives in West Central Ohio. Nearly 120,000 lineworkers keep the U.S. electric grid operating safely and reliably, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which includes our AES Ohio lineworkers and technicians. This day recognizes the hard work, innovation and dedication of America's electrical lineworkers.

Our lineworkers face challenging conditions year-round during extreme weather and emergencies and are often the first responders in times of outages. Over the past few weeks, AES Ohio has experienced consecutive severe weather events including tornadoes that caused extensive damage to electrical equipment. Smart Meter technology allows support resources to check power status remotely, reducing truck rolls and saving time and costs for efficient restorations.

“This is an excellent opportunity to recognize line workers and express our gratitude for their service,” stated Chad Bocook, Director of AES Ohio T&D Field Operations. “Continuously, throughout the year, they maintain our system and serve our communities in times of need — contending with storms and emergencies to ensure safe and reliable power delivery for our customers in West Central Ohio.”

  • The lineworker apprenticeship takes four years of 8,119 hours of extensive field training, classroom learning and testing.
  • Our Safety 101 program hosts more than 30 demonstrations annually teaching a variety of audiences — in a visual and entertaining way: how electricity is produced, how to use it safely, the dangers of not using or being near electricity safely, and what can happen if you don't.
  • Since 2008, AES Ohio has won 16 Emergency Recovery, Mutual Assistance and Safety Performance awards from the Edison Electric Institute for outstanding leadership and service in the electric power industry.

AES Ohio invites the community to honor lineworkers by taking a moment to thank them for their dedication. Use #ThankALineworker on social media to show your support for the people who power our communities and lives.
